National Mail Order Association Find New Products in the Past - Capitalize on the NostalgicWhen looking for a new mail order product concept, Ive always found old magazines and catalogs helpful. Things that were popular in the past often have a good chance of being "repopularized". There is an old saying: There is nothing really new in the world. There are many items and concepts of the past that can be resurrected to fit into todays marketplace. One of the neatest concepts Ive found is taking a picture, blowing it up and then making a jigsaw puzzle out of it. I saw this done over twenty years ago but I havent seen it done lately. Think of it, classic car buffs could have their favorite auto made into a jigsaw puzzle. Sail boats, family pictures, company logos for premiums, the list is endless of subjects that may be made into jigsaw puzzles. For those of you in places with cold winters, remember those long tassel hats that were popular about thirty years ago? Every kid had one or more, the longer the tassel, the better. Kids today have probably never seen one of these tasseled stocking caps. Think they would be popular today? I do! You may not be able to build a mail order company with just tassel hats, but if youre the maker of the hats, you may be able to get them into other companies catalogs. Now that I think of it, you may be able to develop a catalog of just hats. Always remember things go through cycles. What was popular in the past has a good chance of being popular in the present. Talk to your parents and grandparents, go to antique shows, not only to look at products themselves, but for old magazines that have mail order products in them. Perhaps you can find something that can be modified or improved with todays technology. What you want is a constant flow of ideas to stimulate your brain. Every generation is nostalgic about something. Tap into it for profits. Good hunting!
